SculpSure at NYC Lipo is a FDA-cleared non-invasive body contouring system manufactured by Cynosure that uses a 1060 nm wavelength diode laser to heat subcutaneous adipose tissue to hyperthermic temperatures (42–47°C) — a range lethal to adipocytes but tolerable to overlying skin and surrounding structures. The 1060 nm wavelength sits in a spectral region with relatively low absorption by melanin and high absorption by adipose tissue lipids, giving the energy delivery a degree of adipose selectivity as it passes through the dermis into the fat layer beneath. The SculpSure applicator frames are flat, flexible panels strapped directly against the skin surface with an integrated contact cooling mechanism that maintains the epidermis at a comfortable temperature (16–25°C) throughout treatment, preventing thermal injury to the surface while the laser energy builds therapeutic heat in the deeper fat compartment. Up to four applicators can be deployed simultaneously, allowing the entire treatment session — regardless of total surface area covered — to complete in approximately twenty-five minutes. The heated adipocytes undergo a form of controlled cell death (apoptosis) triggered by the sustained hyperthermic exposure, and are then processed and cleared by the body's lymphatic and immune systems over the subsequent six to twelve weeks.
