The Infrared LED Sauna at Next Health West Hollywood is a 3-in-1 system delivering near infrared (NIR, approximately 700–1400 nm), mid infrared (MIR, approximately 1400–3000 nm), and far infrared (FIR, approximately 3000 nm–1 mm) wavelengths simultaneously, at a cabin temperature of 110–140°F. This temperature range is notably lower than traditional Finnish steam saunas (180–195°F), but the physiological mechanism is different: infrared radiation penetrates directly into the body's tissues — NIR at 5–8 mm, MIR and FIR at varying depths into subcutaneous tissue and muscle — raising core temperature from within rather than heating only the air around the body. This allows therapeutic sweating and core temperature elevation at a more comfortable ambient air temperature, making sessions accessible to clients who find conventional high-heat saunas difficult to tolerate. The three wavelength bands target different therapeutic outcomes. Near infrared has been studied for its potential in skin collagen stimulation, wound healing, and light-based cellular activation (photobiomodulation) through cytochrome c oxidase activation in mitochondria. Mid infrared penetrates to the soft tissue and musculoskeletal level and is associated with pain reduction and improved circulation. Far infrared is the primary driver of core heating, sweating, and the cardiovascular conditioning response — a passive cardiovascular load that may produce heart rate elevation and increased stroke volume comparable to moderate-intensity exercise. Regular FIR sauna use is associated in the research literature with improvements in arterial compliance, resting heart rate, and blood pressure. Each session runs 30 minutes.
