Blood Testing

A blood test using Galleri technology to screen for over 50 types of cancer through detection of cell-free DNA shed by tumours into the bloodstream. A single blood draw provides a multi-cancer signal that complements standard cancer screening methods.
The Galleri Multi-Cancer Detection test available at Next Health is a next-generation liquid biopsy that screens for signals associated with over 50 types of cancer from a single blood draw. The test works by analysing cell-free DNA circulating in the bloodstream — specifically looking for methylation patterns that are characteristic of cancer cells rather than normal tissue. Many of the cancer types detectable by Galleri lack conventional screening methods. While mammography screens for breast cancer, colonoscopy for colorectal cancer, and PSA for prostate cancer, the majority of cancer types have no recommended routine screening test. Galleri aims to fill this gap by providing a single-test signal across a broad range of cancers, including pancreatic, liver, ovarian, and head and neck cancers among others. The test itself is straightforward: a standard blood draw of approximately two tubes, taking about 15 minutes at the clinic. Samples are shipped to Galleri's CLIA-certified laboratory for processing, with results typically returned within two to three weeks. A positive signal indicates that cancer-associated DNA patterns were detected and identifies the likely tissue of origin to guide further diagnostic workup. A negative signal means no cancer signal was detected at the time of the test. It is important to understand what Galleri is and is not. It is a screening tool designed to complement — not replace — existing cancer screening guidelines such as mammography, colonoscopy, and cervical screening. A negative result does not guarantee the absence of cancer, and a positive result requires confirmatory diagnostic testing. Next Health's physician team reviews all results and provides guidance on next steps regardless of outcome. The test is recommended for adults aged 50 and over, or younger individuals with elevated cancer risk due to family history, genetic predisposition, or environmental exposures. It is available as a standalone service or as part of broader wellness packages at Next Health.
