Type
MRI Scan
Duration
30 min
An MRI of the paranasal sinuses that images the sinus cavities and surrounding soft tissue in detail without ionising radiation. It is used to assess persistent or complex sinus problems where soft-tissue detail is important. At Neoscan the scan is performed on a 1.5T scanner with the Ambient Experience environment to ease anxiety, and reported by radiology specialists. No referral is required for a private appointment, and a contrast-enhanced option is available.
MRI of the paranasal sinuses images the air-filled sinus cavities around the nose and the soft tissues that line and surround them, without using ionising radiation. While many routine sinus questions are assessed with CT, MRI is valuable where detailed soft-tissue characterisation is needed — for example in persistent or complicated sinus problems, or to evaluate the extent of a process into neighbouring structures. It is also used to follow up previously identified findings. At Neoscan the examination is performed on a Philips Ingenia Prodiva 1.5T scanner with the in-bore Ambient Experience environment, allowing you to choose lighting, music and projected imagery to make the scan feel calmer — particularly helpful for people who feel anxious or claustrophobic. You lie on your back with your head positioned in the coil and stay still for around 20 to 30 minutes while the sequences are acquired, wearing ear protection for the scanner noise. Many sinus studies are performed without contrast, with a contrast-enhanced option available where it adds clinical value, given through a small cannula in the arm. The images are reviewed and reported by the centre's radiology specialists, with a standard written report in about ten working days and an expedited 48-hour option on request. Findings are intended to support your ENT specialist or treating doctor rather than to stand alone. Please tell the team about any implants, a pacemaker, pregnancy or previous contrast reactions before your appointment so suitability can be confirmed.
