Pelvic MRI

An MRI of the lesser pelvis that images the pelvic organs and surrounding soft tissue in detail, without radiation. It is used to investigate pelvic symptoms and to assess conditions of the reproductive and urinary structures, with a dedicated endometriosis protocol available. Pelvic MRI gives a detailed view of the structures within the lesser (lower) pelvis, using its excellent soft-tissue contrast and no ionising radiation. It is well suited to investigating pelvic pain and to assessing the reproductive and urinary organs and the surrounding tissue planes, and it can characterise findings identified on ultrasound. Neoscan also offers a dedicated endometriosis protocol, a tailored set of sequences designed to map areas commonly affected by the condition more thoroughly than a standard pelvic study. At Neoscan the examination is performed on a Philips Ingenia Prodiva 1.5T scanner with the in-bore Ambient Experience environment, which lets you choose lighting, music and projected imagery to make the scan calmer — useful because pelvic protocols involve several detailed sequences and a longer time in the scanner. You lie on your back and stay still for roughly 30 to 45 minutes while the images are acquired, with ear protection provided. A standard pelvic study may be done without contrast or with contrast depending on the clinical question, while the endometriosis protocol follows its own dedicated sequence set. Some pelvic examinations are best timed to a particular phase of the menstrual cycle, and the team will advise on any preparation when you book. The images are reviewed and reported by the centre's radiology specialists, with a standard written report in about ten working days and a 48-hour expedited option on request.
