Brain MR Angiography

A magnetic resonance angiography study that images the arteries of the brain without ionising radiation, often without the need for contrast. It is used to assess the cerebral blood vessels and can be combined with a standard brain scan in one visit. MR angiography (Angio MR) of the head uses magnetic resonance techniques to visualise the arteries supplying the brain, frequently without any contrast injection because flowing blood itself generates the signal. It is used to assess the cerebral arteries and is often requested alongside a standard brain study so that both the brain tissue and its blood vessels can be evaluated together. The technique avoids ionising radiation entirely, distinguishing it from CT angiography. At Neoscan the examination is carried out on a Philips Ingenia Prodiva 1.5T scanner with the in-bore Ambient Experience environment, allowing you to select lighting, music and projected imagery to make lying in the scanner more comfortable — particularly helpful for anyone who feels confined or anxious. You lie on your back and stay still for around 20 to 30 minutes while the angiographic sequences are acquired, wearing ear protection for the scanner noise. Many head angiography studies are performed without contrast; a contrast-enhanced option is available where it adds clinical value, and a combined package imaging both the brain and its arteries in the same appointment is offered at a reduced overall price. The images are reviewed and reported by the centre's radiology specialists, with a standard written report in about ten working days and an expedited 48-hour option on request.
