Porcelain / All-Ceramic Crown

A crown is a custom-made cap that covers a damaged, heavily filled or root-treated tooth to restore its shape, strength and appearance. NB Dental uses porcelain and all-ceramic crowns, which are matched to the colour of neighbouring teeth for a natural look. Crowns are used to rebuild teeth that are too broken down for a simple filling, to protect a tooth after root canal treatment, and as the visible restoration on top of a dental implant.

A dental crown is a tooth-shaped restoration that fits over the whole visible part of a tooth, rebuilding it when too much natural structure has been lost to decay, fracture or large old fillings, or to protect a tooth that has had root canal treatment and become brittle. By encasing the tooth, a crown restores its strength, normal shape and biting function while also improving how it looks. At NB Dental crowns are made in porcelain and all-ceramic (metal-free) materials, which transmit light in a way similar to natural enamel and are shade-matched to the surrounding teeth for a discreet result, making them well suited to teeth that show when you smile. Providing a crown usually takes more than one visit: the tooth is prepared and shaped, a precise impression or digital scan is taken, and a temporary crown is fitted while the clinic's dental technicians fabricate the final restoration, which is then checked for fit, bite and colour before being permanently bonded. For larger cosmetic cases the clinic can first create a wax-up or mock-up — a preview of the planned result — so the shape and proportions can be agreed before treatment. Crowns are also the restoration placed on dental implants to replace a missing tooth, and are priced separately for that purpose. With good oral hygiene and regular check-ups, a well-made crown can last many years. Suitability, the choice of material and the condition of the underlying tooth are assessed beforehand.
