Dental Implant (Neodent System)

A dental implant replaces a missing tooth with a titanium post placed in the jawbone that, once healed, supports a custom crown. A dental implant is a small titanium screw that is placed into the jawbone to act as an artificial tooth root. Over a healing period it fuses with the bone in a process called osseointegration, creating a stable foundation onto which a custom-made crown is later attached to replace a missing tooth. Compared with a conventional bridge, an implant does not rely on cutting down the adjacent teeth, and because it transmits chewing forces into the jaw it helps preserve the surrounding bone that tends to shrink after tooth loss. NB Dental places implants from the Neodent system, a well-established brand within the Straumann group, and plans each case using its on-site cone-beam 3D imaging to assess bone volume and position the implant precisely relative to nerves and the sinus. Treatment is generally staged. After the implant is surgically placed under local anaesthetic, it is left to integrate for some weeks to months before the implant is uncovered if needed and the final all-ceramic crown is fitted; the implant and the crown are therefore quoted as separate items.
