Cervical Spine MRI

Type

MRI Scan

Duration

25 min

Native 3.0T MRI of the cervical spine covering C1-C7 vertebrae, discs, spinal cord, and neural foramina. Assessment for neck pain, radiculopathy, and myelopathy.

The cervical spine MRI covers the vertebral bodies, intervertebral discs, and neural structures from the craniocervical junction (C1) through the cervicothoracic junction (C7-T1). At 3.0 Tesla the scanner provides excellent spinal cord contrast, which is critical for detecting myelopathic signal changes that indicate cord compression. The protocol includes sagittal T1 and T2 sequences for an overview of disc morphology and cord calibre, plus axial T2-weighted and T2* gradient-echo images through each disc level to evaluate foraminal stenosis and uncovertebral joint hypertrophy. The radiologist documents disc protrusions and herniations, grades any canal or foraminal narrowing, and assesses the spinal cord for signal abnormality. At EUR 330 this single-region scan is commonly requested for neck pain with upper-limb radiculopathy, post-whiplash assessment, and evaluation of cervical myelopathy symptoms such as hand clumsiness or gait disturbance. It can be combined with a lumbar spine scan by booking two separate regions.
