Ear Correction – Otoplasty (Plastika uší)

Type

Facelift

Duration

1 hour

Ear correction (otoplasty) at MUDr. Kučerová's Brno clinic repositions prominent or protruding ears closer to the head and corrects ear deformities from birth or injury. The approximately one-hour outpatient procedure can be performed under local anesthesia (25,000 Kč) or general anesthesia (39,000 Kč), making it suitable for adult patients under local and for children or anxious patients under general. MUDr. Kučerová reshapes the ear cartilage through an incision hidden behind the ear, using permanent mattress sutures to hold the new antihelix fold in place. A head dressing is worn for ten to twelve days, then a headband for a further two weeks and a protective scarf at night for four weeks.

Prominent ears — ears that protrude more than 2 cm from the side of the head or that lack the normal antihelical fold — are present from birth in approximately 5% of the population, though they become aesthetically noticeable as the hair thins or as patients choose shorter hairstyles. The condition can cause significant self-consciousness in both children and adults. Otoplasty addresses the anatomical causes: an overdeveloped conchal bowl, an absent or under-folded antihelix, or a combination of both. At MUDr. Lucie Kučerová's practice in Brno, the procedure is performed through a curved incision hidden in the natural crease behind the ear, giving direct access to the cartilage. The cartilage is thinned and weakened along the planned antihelical fold line using a scoring technique, then re-shaped and secured in the corrected position with permanent mattress sutures that hold the new fold permanently. The conchal bowl is reduced if its depth is contributing to projection. The incision is closed in layers; the external scar lies fully concealed behind the ear. The procedure takes approximately one hour. It is routinely performed under local anesthesia in adult patients (25,000 Kč) and under general anesthesia for children or adults who prefer it (39,000 Kč). Both eyelids — sorry, both ears — can be corrected in the same session. Where earlobe repair (from stretching, piercing trauma, or a split lobe) is also needed, suturing costs an additional 8,000 Kč. The all-inclusive fee covers the initial consultation, pre-operative medical examination, anesthesia, OR time, the immediate post-operative head dressing, and the follow-up appointment at ten to twelve days when the dressing is removed and the result is assessed. After dressing removal, a soft headband is worn for a further two weeks during the day and a protective cotton scarf during sleep for four weeks to guard the repositioned ears against accidental displacement while sleeping. Sports and contact activities are avoided for four weeks. The ears should be protected from frost and direct strong sunlight for twelve months while pigmentation and tissue maturity stabilize. Bilateral correction is the norm; correction of one ear is possible when asymmetry between the ears is the primary concern. Results are stable once the internal sutures are incorporated, typically within six months; recurrence rates are low with the permanent suture technique.
