Post-operative care begins at day 14 with pressure scar massage — five times daily using fingertip pressure along the incision lines — continued for several months with medical Vaseline, lard, or Bi-Oil with vitamin E. A specialist elastic bra is worn for the first four to six weeks, transitioning to an underwired bra for scar support thereafter. Patients may resume daily activities after five to six weeks. Pre-operative preparation includes breast imaging, internal medical clearance, discontinuation of blood-thinning medications, and reduction of smoking. Contraindications include active infections, pregnancy, and medications that impair clotting.
