Brain MRI

Diagnostic MRI scan of the brain and cranial structures. The scan uses magnetic resonance imaging to produce detailed cross-sectional images of brain tissue, blood vessels, and surrounding structures without ionising radiation. Appointment slots available within 1-3 working days, with results returned within the same timeframe for referred patients.

The brain MRI at MRI Centrum captures high-resolution images of the cerebral hemispheres, cerebellum, brainstem, and surrounding structures including the meninges and cranial vasculature. The scan protocol is designed to detect a wide range of conditions including space-occupying lesions, vascular anomalies, demyelinating disease, and structural abnormalities that may underlie neurological symptoms such as persistent headache, dizziness, or cognitive changes. MRI is the preferred modality for brain imaging because of its superior soft-tissue contrast compared to CT. Different sequence types — T1-weighted, T2-weighted, FLAIR, and diffusion-weighted — highlight different tissue characteristics, allowing radiologists to distinguish between oedema, haemorrhage, ischaemia, and tumour with high specificity. Intravenous contrast (gadolinium) may be administered when indicated, at an additional charge of EUR 78.12. The scan itself takes approximately 20-30 minutes, during which the patient lies still inside the scanner bore. MRI Centrum's extended operating hours — including evenings until 22:30 and weekends — make it straightforward to schedule around work or travel commitments, which is particularly relevant for international patients visiting Amsterdam or Rotterdam.
