What's included

4 deliverables in this treatment

  • Abdominal MRI (liver, kidneys, adrenals, spleen, pancreas)
  • MRCP sequences when indicated
  • Radiologist interpretation and report
  • Results within 1-3 working days (referral patients)

Comprehensive MRI scan of the abdomen and pelvis covering the liver, kidneys, adrenal glands, spleen, pancreas, and surrounding structures. The scan can include MRCP (magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography) for bile duct and pancreatic duct evaluation. Used to investigate abdominal symptoms, screen for organ pathology, and evaluate known lesions.

About this treatment

The abdominal MRI at MRI Centrum provides detailed cross-sectional imaging of the entire abdominal cavity. The scan protocol covers the liver (including screening for focal lesions, diffuse liver disease, and hepatic vascular anatomy), kidneys (masses, cysts, congenital variants), adrenal glands (adenomas, hyperplasia), spleen, and pancreas. When MRCP sequences are included, the bile ducts and pancreatic duct are visualised non-invasively, which is…

Unlike CT, abdominal MRI produces zero ionising radiation and offers superior soft-tissue contrast, making it particularly useful for characterising liver lesions (distinguishing haemangiomas from metastases, for example) and evaluating the pancreas in patients with pancreatitis or suspected pancreatic tumours. The scan typically uses multiple breath-hold sequences to minimise motion artefact.

The examination takes approximately 30-45 minutes depending on the specific clinical question and whether contrast is administered. Intravenous gadolinium contrast may be used for dynamic liver imaging, at an additional charge. Results are reviewed by the radiology team and a report is issued within 1-3 working days for referred patients.
