PRP Hair Treatment
Duration
1 hour
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) hair restoration at Motykie Med Spa uses the patient's own concentrated growth factors, injected into the scalp to support follicular health and slow hair thinning. A blood draw is processed in a centrifuge to isolate PRP, which is then injected across the thinning scalp. Three initial sessions are typically recommended, followed by periodic maintenance. Suitable for both men and women experiencing diffuse hair thinning.
PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) hair restoration at Motykie Med Spa harnesses the concentrated growth factors naturally present in the patient's own platelets to support scalp health and follicular function in areas affected by androgenetic alopecia (male and female pattern hair loss) and diffuse hair thinning. The procedure begins with a routine blood draw from the patient's arm — the same volume as a standard blood test. The collected blood is then centrifuged at a calibrated speed and duration to separate its components by density: red blood cells settle to the bottom layer, platelet-poor plasma floats to the top, and the platelet-rich plasma — containing a concentration of platelets several times higher than baseline blood — collects in the middle layer. This PRP fraction is extracted and prepared for injection. Platelets are the body's primary responders in wound healing; when activated, they release a range of growth factors from their alpha granules, including platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β), epidermal growth factor (EGF), and insulin-like growth factor (IGF-1). When these growth factors are delivered directly into the perifollicular scalp tissue via multiple fine-gauge injections, they may support follicular stem cell activity, prolong the anagen growth phase of hair follicles, and promote miniaturised follicles (shrinking follicles in the early stages of androgenetic alopecia) to return to more robust production. The treatment is not a permanent solution to hair loss but is associated with slowing the progression of thinning and improving hair density and calibre when used consistently. A standard initial course of three sessions spaced four to six weeks apart is recommended, followed by maintenance sessions every four to six months. Results are subtle and accumulate over six to twelve months of consistent treatment. PRP hair treatment pairs well with SmartGraft FUE transplant cases as an adjunct to support both the donor area healing and recipient area graft take.
