Liposuction at Motykie Plastic Surgery is performed using a range of advanced fat removal technologies, allowing Dr. Gary Motykie to select the technique best suited to the tissue characteristics of each treatment area and the patient's overall contouring goals. All techniques use the tumescent approach as the foundation: a large volume of dilute lidocaine and epinephrine solution is injected into the target fat compartment before suctioning, providing localised anesthesia, vasoconstriction to minimise blood loss, and mechanical hydro-dissection that separates fat cells from connective tissue fibres and makes extraction easier. VASER ultrasound-assisted liposuction uses a titanium probe that emits ultrasound energy inside the fat compartment to selectively emulsify adipocytes before aspiration — the ultrasound preferentially disrupts fat cells while leaving surrounding connective tissue, blood vessels, and nerves relatively intact, resulting in smoother contours and potentially less bruising. Laser-assisted options include SmartLipo (Nd:YAG 1064 nm laser), CoolLipo (1320 nm), and SlimLipo (924 nm + 975 nm), each delivering laser energy through a fine fibre into the fat to liquefy adipocytes; the thermal effect also stimulates collagen contraction and mild skin tightening in the treated area — useful in body zones where skin elasticity is borderline. Power-assisted liposuction (PAL) uses a rapidly oscillating cannula tip that vibrates at several thousand strokes per minute, reducing the physical effort required for fibrous or dense fat compartments (such as the male chest, flanks, and back) and allowing more precise extraction with less surgeon fatigue. Dr. Motykie performs body liposuction (abdomen, flanks, hips, thighs, arms, back, bra rolls, and knees), revision liposuction for patients with contour irregularities from previous procedures, and submental liposuction to define the jawline and reduce double chin. Treatment time runs approximately one to two hours for one to three areas. A compression garment is worn for four to six weeks post-procedure.
