IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) photofacial using the Lumecca platform for skin rejuvenation, pigmentation correction, sun damage, rosacea, and vascular redness. Broad-spectrum filtered light targets melanin and oxyhemoglobin in a single pass, reducing age spots, freckles, and broken capillaries while improving overall skin tone. Minimal downtime — mild redness and temporary darkening of pigmented spots are the expected post-treatment response.

The IPL Photofacial at Motykie Med Spa uses the Lumecca platform, an intense pulsed light device designed to deliver higher peak power than conventional IPL systems in the same or fewer sessions. Lumecca operates across a filtered broadband spectrum, with the clinician selecting the appropriate cut-off filter to target either melanin (the chromophore responsible for pigmented lesions: age spots, freckles, solar lentigines, café-au-lait macules, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation) or oxyhemoglobin (the chromophore in vascular structures: broken capillaries, telangiectasia, diffuse redness from rosacea, and port wine stains). The broadband light is absorbed by the targeted chromophore, converted to heat, and causes selective thermolysis of the target structure while leaving surrounding tissue unaffected — pigmented cells are disrupted and rise to the surface as small darkened crusts that shed over seven to fourteen days; vascular targets coagulate and are reabsorbed by the body over several weeks. The full-face photofacial protocol is particularly effective for patients with diffuse sun damage and photopigmentation, a pattern of generalised solar lentigines, telangiectasia, and uneven tone common in Los Angeles patients with years of sun exposure. A single Lumecca session is often described by providers as equivalent to two to three sessions on lower-powered conventional IPL platforms due to its higher peak energy output. A treatment course of two to four sessions spaced four weeks apart is recommended for optimal results, with annual maintenance to address new photodamage. Session duration is fifteen to twenty minutes for the full face. Mild redness, warmth, and temporary intensification of pigmented spots (as they darken before shedding) are the normal post-treatment findings.
