MRI of the Hip Joint

Type

MRI Scan

Duration

35 min

Magnetic resonance imaging of the hip, showing the joint cartilage, the labrum, the surrounding tendons and muscles and the bone of the femoral head and socket in detail. It is used for hip and groin pain, suspected labral tears, impingement, tendon problems and early changes in the bone. At MojaDiagnoza one hip is 689 zł and both hips together are 1,199 zł, scanned on the centre's own equipment.

An MRI of the hip gives a detailed view of the structures in and around the ball-and-socket joint, including the articular cartilage, the acetabular labrum, the joint capsule, the surrounding tendons and muscles such as the gluteal and iliopsoas groups, and the bone marrow of the femoral head and pelvis. Because it shows these soft tissues and early bone changes so clearly, it is the scan typically used to investigate hip or groin pain, clicking or catching, suspected labral tears, femoroacetabular impingement, tendon problems and unexplained bone-related symptoms that an X-ray cannot fully explain. At MojaDiagnoza the examination is performed on the centre's own MRI scanner. You lie still while the images are acquired; a single hip generally takes around twenty minutes and a combined study of both hips longer. The scanner is loud during acquisition and ear protection is provided. One hip joint is charged at the flat single-joint price of 689 zł, while both hips examined in the same appointment are 1,199 zł, which is often more convenient and cost-effective when symptoms affect both sides or a comparison is helpful. The images are described by a radiology specialist and the report and pictures are released through the RadPoint online patient portal, usually within around 96 hours. As with every MRI, the team reviews a safety questionnaire first, because some implants, pacemakers or metal fragments may make the scan unsuitable.
