MRI of the Hand

An MRI of the hand provides detailed images of the intricate anatomy of the fingers and palm — the small joints and their cartilage, the flexor and extensor tendons, the ligaments, the soft tissues and the bone. This level of detail makes it valuable for investigating ongoing hand pain or swelling that has not settled, suspected tendon or ligament injuries, inflammatory or arthritic joint changes, soft-tissue lumps such as ganglia, and bone-related problems that are not clear on X-ray. At MojaDiagnoza the scan is acquired on the centre's own MRI system, with the hand carefully positioned in the imaging field; you stay still while the sequences run, generally over about fifteen to twenty-five minutes. Ear protection is provided because the scanner is noisy while working. A hand examination costs 739 zł, the same rate the centre applies to other comparable regions such as the foot, thigh and lower leg. The images are described by a radiology specialist, and the report and pictures are made available through the RadPoint online portal, usually within around 96 hours. As with any MRI, a safety questionnaire is checked beforehand, since certain implants, devices or metal fragments may make the examination unsuitable.
