About this treatment
Extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) uses high-energy acoustic pressure waves delivered through the skin to a targeted area of tissue. It is widely used in physiotherapy for chronic tendon and soft-tissue conditions that have not fully responded to other conservative measures.
How it works
The pressure waves are thought to stimulate a localised healing response — increasing local blood flow, supporting tissue regeneration, and helping to break down areas of calcification or chronically overloaded tissue. It is commonly applied for conditions such as plantar fasciitis (heel pain), Achilles and other tendinopathies, tennis and golfer's elbow, and chronic shoulder complaints, among others.
