Treatment begins with a conversation about what you want — a tidier, better-defined border, a little extra fullness, more hydration, or correction of asymmetry — and the physician suggests an amount to suit, frequently starting with a modest volume for first-time patients.
A strong topical anaesthetic is applied and lip filler products also contain a local anaesthetic, so the procedure is generally well tolerated. The gel is placed with a fine needle or cannula and shaped by hand; results are visible straight away, though lips commonly swell for a day or two and small bruises can occur, with the final shape clear within one to two weeks.
