About this treatment
Upper eyelid skin loses elasticity with age, gradually folding over the lash line — a change that can make the face look permanently tired and, in advanced cases, narrow the upper field of vision. Lower eyelids develop fat prolapses that present as persistent under-eye bags resistant to creams or sleep. Blepharoplasty is the definitive correction for both.
The procedure
After marking the excess skin with the patient seated upright, local anaesthetic is infiltrated into the eyelid. For upper lids, an ellipse of redundant skin (and where indicated, a strip of orbicularis muscle and protruding fat from the medial fat pad) is removed through an incision hidden in the natural lid crease.
