Duration
6 hours
Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) hair restoration using a handheld punch device to harvest individual follicular units from the donor area and transplant them to areas of hair loss. No linear donor scar. Visible results appear at 6–9 months; full hair density restoration associated with up to 18 months. Suitable for male pattern baldness and female hair loss. Consultation required for graft count and pricing.
Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) hair restoration at Millennial Plastic Surgery offers a minimally scarring approach to surgical hair transplantation for patients with androgenetic alopecia (male or female pattern hair loss) or other causes of focal hair loss. Unlike the traditional FUSS (Follicular Unit Strip Surgery) or FUT method, which removes a linear strip of scalp from the donor area leaving a permanent linear scar, FUE uses a small-diameter handheld punch device to individually extract follicular units — natural groupings of one to four hairs — directly from the donor zone at the back and sides of the scalp. Each punch creates a tiny circular extraction site of 0.8–1.0 mm diameter that heals as a nearly invisible dot-scar, allowing patients to wear their hair very short without a visible harvest scar. The extracted follicular units are immediately prepared under magnification to preserve the delicate follicle bulb integrity, and then transplanted individually into recipient sites created in the balding or thinning zones at the appropriate angle, depth, and density to mimic natural hair growth direction and pattern. The overall procedure time depends on the graft count — larger sessions of 2,000–3,000 grafts may require a full day of sequential extraction and placement. Hair transplant results follow a predictable timeline: transplanted hairs undergo temporary shedding in the first four to six weeks (shock loss), after which the follicles re-enter an active growth phase; visible regrowth appears at six to nine months and full density associated with results visible at twelve to eighteen months. FUE at Millennial Plastic Surgery is appropriate for men with Hamilton-Norwood Class II–VI male pattern baldness and women with Ludwig Type I–II female pattern thinning, as well as for eyebrow or beard restoration. Patients are assessed for donor hair density and quality, and for the suitability of the hairline design relative to long-term alopecia progression at consultation.
