Root Canal
Duration

Microscope-assisted root canal treatment that removes infected or inflamed tissue from inside a tooth, disinfects and shapes the canals and seals them, allowing a tooth that would otherwise be lost to be kept. Working under magnification helps locate and clean the fine canal anatomy thoroughly. Pricing depends on the tooth type and number of canals, with re-treatment of a previously filled tooth and core build-up options available.
Root canal (endodontic) treatment is needed when the soft tissue inside a tooth — the pulp, which contains the nerve and blood supply — becomes irreversibly inflamed or infected, often through deep decay, a crack or trauma. The aim is to relieve pain and save the natural tooth by removing the diseased pulp, cleaning and disinfecting the canal system, and then filling and sealing it to prevent reinfection. At Milanova the treatment is carried out under a dental microscope, which improves visibility of the narrow, sometimes branching canals so they can be located and cleaned more completely. Treatment is performed under local anaesthetic and may be completed in one or more visits depending on the tooth and the degree of infection. Front teeth (incisors and canines) have simpler anatomy and are priced accordingly, while premolars and molars have more canals and take longer. Where a tooth has previously been root-treated and a problem has returned, endodontic re-treatment can reopen, clean and re-seal the canals. After the canals are sealed the tooth is rebuilt — frequently with a fibre-post and core to support a substantial restoration — and a molar or heavily broken-down tooth is usually protected with a crown or onlay afterwards to reduce the risk of fracture. Materials such as MTA may be used to seal or repair the root in particular cases. The dentist confirms the prognosis and the full plan, including any restoration, at assessment.
