Crowns & Bridges

Duration

A custom crown that caps a damaged, heavily filled or root-treated tooth to restore its strength, shape and appearance, designed and milled with CAD/CAM technology. Crowns are also used to complete dental implants. Milanova offers all-ceramic (Emax/feldspathic), zirconia-based and metal-based porcelain crowns, along with temporary crowns, so the material can be matched to whether strength or maximum aesthetics is the priority.

A dental crown is a tooth-shaped cap that fits over a prepared tooth to rebuild it when too much natural structure has been lost to decay, fracture or a large filling, or to protect a tooth after root canal treatment. By covering the whole visible portion of the tooth, a crown restores its function in the bite and its appearance while holding the remaining structure together. At Milanova crowns are produced with a digital CAD/CAM workflow — the prepared tooth is scanned and the crown designed and milled for an accurate fit. The choice of material is matched to the situation. All-ceramic Emax or feldspathic crowns offer excellent translucency for front teeth where appearance matters most; zirconia-based crowns combine strength with good aesthetics and suit back teeth or higher-load situations; and metal-ceramic crowns remain a robust, more economical option. A temporary crown — either milled in PMMA or made chairside — protects the tooth while a definitive crown is being prepared. Crowns also form the visible part of an implant restoration, screwed or cemented onto the implant to replace a single missing tooth. The tooth is prepared under local anaesthetic, an accurate scan or impression is taken, and the finished crown is checked for fit, bite and shade before being fitted. The dentist discusses which material best suits each tooth, the expected longevity and how to care for the crown at consultation.
