CT Scan

Type

CT Scan

Duration

20 min

Diagnostic computed tomography for any body region at MEDIZINICUM Radiologie Stephansplatz. Modern multislice scanners with dose-optimised protocols. Available with or without intravenous contrast depending on clinical indication. Specialist radiologist report same day.

MEDIZINICUM Radiologie Stephansplatz offers general CT scanning across the full range of body regions: head, neck, thorax, abdomen, pelvis, spine, and extremities. The radiology branch is co-located with the specialist clinic at Stephansplatz 3 but operates semi-independently with dedicated extended opening hours, including Saturday mornings — an important practical consideration for international patients scheduling around travel. Modern multislice CT scanners acquire multiple image slices per gantry rotation using spiral CT protocols, delivering rapid acquisitions that reduce patient movement artefact while minimising scan time. All protocols are optimised for the lowest radiation dose consistent with diagnostic image quality for each indication. This is especially relevant for the thorax and abdomen, where dose reduction through iterative reconstruction and tube current modulation has advanced significantly in recent years. For examinations requiring intravenous contrast — abdominal, vascular, oncological, and many neurological indications — patients are requested to provide recent blood results showing creatinine (kidney function) and TSH (thyroid function) values, typically from within the preceding six weeks. Patients well hydrated before and after the scan support safe contrast clearance. Oral contrast for bowel opacification may be required for certain abdominal protocols and is administered 30 to 45 minutes before scanning. Self-pay patients can book directly without a referring physician's letter, though bringing any relevant prior imaging or medical history significantly helps the reporting radiologist contextualise findings. Common self-pay indications include abdominal pain investigation, kidney stone assessment, suspected malignancy, lung nodule characterisation, orthopaedic assessment where bone detail is the priority, and pre-travel or executive health screening. The International Department can coordinate CT as part of a broader one-day check-up programme, integrating radiology findings with specialist physician review in the same visit.
