The lipidogram is a four-part cholesterol panel measuring total cholesterol, HDL (“good”) cholesterol, LDL (“bad”) cholesterol and triglycerides from a single venous sample. It is a standard part of cardiovascular and metabolic check-ups and helps build a picture of heart-health risk. At Centrum Medyczne Medix it is processed in the on-site laboratory at a fixed published price, and is usually taken after an overnight fast for the most reliable triglyceride reading.
A lipid panel, or lipidogram, looks at the fats circulating in your blood and is one of the most widely used tests for assessing cardiovascular risk. From a single venous sample the laboratory reports total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol (often described as the protective fraction), LDL cholesterol (the fraction more strongly associated with arterial plaque) and triglycerides, a separate type of fat influenced by diet, alcohol and metabolism. The ratio between these values, rather than any single number, is what a clinician interprets when estimating risk. Lipid results are commonly used alongside blood pressure, glucose and lifestyle factors to guide decisions about diet, exercise and, where appropriate, medication; raised LDL or triglycerides are associated with a higher long-term risk of cardiovascular disease. For the most reliable triglyceride and LDL figures, patients are usually asked to fast for around nine to twelve hours beforehand, taking only water. At Centrum Medyczne Medix the lipidogram is run in the centre's own laboratory at a transparent listed price, making it easy to repeat periodically to track the effect of lifestyle changes or treatment. The laboratory operates Monday to Friday 8:00–19:00 and Saturday 8:00–13:00, and walk-in attendance is generally accepted; your doctor will advise if it should be combined with glucose or other metabolic tests on the same visit.
