HbA1c, or glycated haemoglobin, reflects average blood sugar levels over the previous two to three months rather than a single moment, making it a key test for assessing longer-term glucose control. Unlike a fasting glucose test it does not require an overnight fast. At Centrum Medyczne Medix it is processed in the on-site laboratory at a fixed published price and is widely used both to help identify and to monitor diabetes.

About this treatment

Glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) measures the proportion of haemoglobin in your red blood cells that has glucose attached to it. Because red cells live for around three months, this percentage acts as a memory of average blood-sugar levels over roughly the preceding two to three months — a longer view than any single glucose reading can give. That makes HbA1c especially useful for understanding overall glucose control rather than day-to-day fluctuations.

The test is widely used in two ways: to help assess whether someone may have diabetes or be at risk of it, and to monitor how well blood sugar is being managed in people already diagnosed, where it guides adjustments to diet, lifestyle or medication. A higher HbA1c is associated with poorer average glucose control over the measured period. A particular convenience is that the test does not require fasting, so it can be taken at any time of day from a…

Biomarkers tested

8
C-Peptide ng/mL

A byproduct of insulin production, released in equal amounts to insulin. C-peptide measures how much insulin your pancreas is producing, helping distinguish between type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

Fasting glucose mmol/L

If you have diabetes your body doesn't process glucose effectively.

Fasting Insulin µU/mL

A hormone produced by the pancreas that helps to control blood glucose levels and plays a role in controlling the levels of carbohydrates and fats stored in the body.

Glucose mg/dL

Blood sugar — the body's primary energy source. Fasting glucose screens for diabetes and prediabetes. Chronically elevated glucose damages blood vessels and organs. Levels fluctuate with meals, stress, and physical activity.

Haemoglobin (HGB) g/dL

The iron-rich protein in red blood cells responsible for carrying oxygen throughout your body and returning carbon dioxide to the lungs. Low haemoglobin is the primary marker for anemia and can cause fatigue, weakness, and shortness of breath.

HbA1c (Glycated Haemoglobin) %

Reflects your average blood sugar over the past 2–3 months by measuring the percentage of hemoglobin with attached glucose. HbA1c is the gold standard for diagnosing and monitoring diabetes, unaffected by daily fluctuations.

HOMA-IR Score ratio

Calculated score assessing insulin resistance based on fasting glucose and insulin levels.

Insulin µIU/mL

The hormone produced by the pancreas to regulate blood sugar. Elevated fasting insulin — even with normal glucose — is an early marker of insulin resistance, which precedes type 2 diabetes by years. Key biomarker in longevity medicine.
