About this treatment
Fasting blood glucose is one of the simplest and most informative metabolic tests. After an overnight fast of roughly eight hours, a venous sample is taken and the laboratory measures the concentration of glucose in the blood — a value that reflects how effectively the body, and in particular the hormone insulin, is keeping blood sugar within a healthy range when no food has recently been eaten.
