On-site CT scanner
Clinical examination

Type

CT Scan

Duration

20 min

A CT scan of the chest produces detailed cross-sectional images of the lungs, airways and surrounding structures using X-rays and computer reconstruction. Performed without contrast, it is widely used to assess the lungs and is often requested for persistent respiratory symptoms or follow-up of known findings. At Centrum Medyczne Medix it is carried out on the centre's on-site scanner at a fixed published price, with images reported by a radiologist.

Computed tomography (CT) of the chest uses X-rays taken from many angles and reconstructed by computer into thin cross-sectional images, giving a far more detailed view of the lungs, airways, chest wall and surrounding tissues than a standard chest X-ray. The non-contrast study is a widely used examination that allows a radiologist to examine lung tissue in detail and is frequently the imaging of choice for a range of respiratory questions. A chest CT without contrast is commonly requested to investigate persistent cough, breathlessness or chest symptoms, to characterise something seen on an earlier X-ray, and to follow up known lung findings over time; the related high-resolution protocol (HRCT) is used when very fine detail of the lung structure is needed. The scan takes only a few minutes and involves lying still on a table that moves through the scanner, usually holding your breath briefly so the images are sharp. No injection is required for the non-contrast version, while a contrast-enhanced study is available separately when a doctor wants to assess blood vessels or certain abnormalities more closely. At Centrum Medyczne Medix the examination is performed on the centre's own CT equipment at a transparent listed price during opening hours (Monday to Friday 8:00–19:00, Saturday 8:00–13:00). A referral is normally expected, and the radiology team will advise on any preparation and provide the images and report to your doctor.
