Type

CT Scan

Duration

30 min

A contrast-enhanced CT scan of the abdomen produces detailed cross-sectional images of the abdominal organs, with an injected contrast agent used to highlight blood vessels and tissues for clearer detail. It is a thorough examination often requested to investigate abdominal symptoms. At Centrum Medyczne Medix it is carried out on the centre's on-site scanner at a fixed published price, with images reported by a radiologist.

Computed tomography (CT) of the abdomen with contrast combines cross-sectional X-ray imaging with an intravenous contrast agent — an iodine-based dye injected during the scan — that makes blood vessels and many soft-tissue structures stand out more clearly. The result is a detailed map of the abdominal organs, including the liver, kidneys, pancreas, spleen and bowel, that allows a radiologist to assess them in considerable detail. A contrast-enhanced abdominal CT is commonly requested to investigate abdominal pain or other digestive symptoms, to characterise findings seen on ultrasound or other tests, and to follow up known conditions; a combined abdomen-and-pelvis protocol is available when a wider field is needed, and a non-contrast version is offered where contrast is not required or not suitable. Because the study uses contrast, patients are usually asked about kidney function and allergies beforehand, and the radiology team may give instructions on fasting and fluids. The scan itself takes only a few minutes on the table, though the appointment is a little longer to allow for the injection and checks. At Centrum Medyczne Medix the examination is performed on the centre's own CT equipment at a transparent listed price during opening hours (Monday to Friday 8:00–19:00, Saturday 8:00–13:00). A referral is normally expected, and the images and radiologist's report are provided to your referring doctor.
