Thread treatments use fine, absorbable sutures inserted beneath the skin to achieve one of two effects. Lifting threads — described in 4D and 6D configurations — have tiny barbs or cones along their length that grip the tissue, allowing the physician to gently reposition and support areas that have begun to sag, such as the cheeks, jawline or brow, for a subtle lift without surgery. Revitalising, or mono, threads are smooth and finer; rather than lifting, they are placed in a mesh-like pattern to stimulate the skin, an effect associated with gradual improvement in firmness and texture as the threads are absorbed. At MEDIWA Clinic the area is cleansed and a local anaesthetic used for comfort, with the procedure typically taking thirty to forty-five minutes. The threads are introduced through a fine needle or cannula and are made from materials that the body breaks down over months, by which time a supportive response in the surrounding tissue is intended to maintain some of the effect. Mild swelling, bruising or a pulling sensation can occur for a few days, and you are advised to avoid extreme facial movements and high-pressure facials while healing. Threads suit adults with early, mild sagging or those wanting to improve skin quality who are not yet ready for more invasive options, and they are often combined with injectables. Results vary between individuals; suitability, realistic expectations and any contraindications are reviewed beforehand, and threads are avoided during pregnancy.
