Intense pulsed light (IPL) photorejuvenation targets sun spots, uneven pigmentation and overall dullness, helping to even out skin tone and brighten the complexion. Broad-spectrum light is absorbed by excess pigment, which then lifts and flakes away over the days that follow. MediLaser offers IPL for the face alone or extended to the neck and décolleté, typically over a short course.
IPL photorejuvenation uses broad-spectrum intense pulsed light rather than a single laser wavelength. The light is absorbed by areas of excess melanin in the skin, heating and breaking up the pigment so that sun spots and patches of uneven tone gradually darken, rise to the surface and flake away over the following one to two weeks, leaving a clearer and more even complexion. The same light can also target redness, and the gentle heat is associated with a subtle overall brightening and refreshing of the skin. At MediLaser the area is cleansed and a cooling gel applied, and protective eyewear is worn during treatment. The handpiece delivers pulses of light across the area, often felt as a quick warm snap; a facial session takes around twenty to thirty minutes. There is little downtime — treated spots may look slightly darker before they shed, and mild redness settles quickly. Because pigmentation clears in stages, a course of several sessions a few weeks apart is generally recommended, with diligent sun protection between and after sessions to maintain results and reduce recurrence. IPL is best suited to sun-related pigmentation and uneven tone on lighter skin; suitability, the right settings and any precautions are assessed beforehand, and recent sun exposure or a tan must be avoided.
