IPL Photorejuvenation — Vascular & Pigmentation

Type

Laser

Duration

40 min

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) photorejuvenation at MEDIKAP Pardubice targets vascular and pigmentation irregularities including rosacea, spider veins, age spots, sun damage, and generalised facial redness. Unlike laser devices that emit a single wavelength, IPL delivers broad-spectrum light filtered to target specific chromophores — haemoglobin in vessels and melanin in pigment lesions. The result is progressive clearance of vascular and pigmented lesions alongside overall skin tone improvement. Priced from 3 300–3 450 Kč per area, with a series of 3–5 sessions recommended at 4-week intervals.

IPL photorejuvenation at MEDIKAP uses a broad-spectrum intense pulsed light device filtered to emit wavelengths selectively absorbed by haemoglobin (in vascular lesions) and melanin (in pigmentation). This dual-target effect makes IPL particularly useful for diffuse photodamage where patients present with a combination of redness, visible capillaries, and pigmentation irregularity. The physics: light energy absorbed by haemoglobin heats the vessel wall to a temperature causing coagulation. Over 2–4 weeks, the vessel collapses and is reabsorbed. Melanin-containing cells absorb the light energy, heat, and are cleared by macrophages. In both cases, the surrounding dermis is also mildly heated, triggering fibroblast stimulation and low-level collagen induction. At MEDIKAP Pardubice, the treatment is performed under medical supervision. Treatment areas available per the clinic's price list: face, décolleté, neck, and backs of hands. Small isolated lesions can be spot-treated with 1–2 pulses at 600 Kč. A full area session (3 300–3 450 Kč depending on area) covers the entire zone. Procedure: eyes are protected with goggles. Ultrasound gel is applied to the skin as a contact medium. The IPL handpiece delivers pulses across the target area. Each pulse produces a snapping sensation and warmth — most patients describe it as a rubber-band flick. Treatment of the full face takes approximately 20–30 minutes. Post-treatment: pigmentation spots typically darken (from haemoglobin oxidation) over 3–5 days before the crusted tissue sheds. Redness from vascular lesions fades progressively over 1–3 weeks. Mild erythema at the treatment site is normal for 24–48 hours. Sun avoidance is critical in the 2–4 weeks before and after each session to prevent post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. A series of 3–5 sessions at 4-week intervals is recommended. IPL is contraindicated in Fitzpatrick V–VI skin types (high melanin absorbs energy non-selectively), pregnant patients, those on photosensitising medications, and those with active tanning.
