4th-generation HIV antigen/antibody combination test detecting both HIV 1/2 antibodies and p24 antigen. Reliable from 6 weeks after potential exposure. At 62 PLN (~€14), roughly half the price of equivalent tests in German labs.
The 4th-generation HIV combo test simultaneously detects HIV 1/2 antibodies and the p24 antigen, providing early detection capability compared to older antibody-only assays. The p24 antigen appears in blood approximately 2–3 weeks after infection, before the antibody response develops at 3–6 weeks. This dual approach narrows the diagnostic window period. A negative result at 6 weeks post-exposure is considered conclusive by European testing guidelines. For individuals who test within the first 6 weeks after potential exposure, a negative result should be confirmed with a repeat test at the 6-week mark. The test is performed on a venous blood sample and requires no fasting or special preparation. Results are typically available within 1–2 business days. A reactive screening result would be followed by confirmatory testing including Western blot (available at Medicus for 357 PLN as a package). Medicus also offers hepatitis B (HBsAg: 40 PLN, anti-HBs: 74 PLN), hepatitis C (anti-HCV: 67 PLN), and syphilis screening (48 PLN) for comprehensive STI panels.
