Bilateral breast MRI at 3 Tesla for screening and diagnostic evaluation. The high field strength provides excellent spatial resolution for detecting lesions that may be occult on mammography and ultrasound, particularly in women with dense breast tissue or high-risk genetic profiles.

Breast MRI at Medicover Hospital is performed on the 3T Magnetom 3 Neo, which delivers the spatial resolution and contrast sensitivity needed to detect small enhancing lesions in breast parenchyma. The examination evaluates both breasts simultaneously using a dedicated breast coil, with sequences optimised to distinguish benign from malignant tissue characteristics. The non-contrast protocol (1,160 PLN) includes T2-weighted and diffusion-weighted imaging, which can identify suspicious lesions based on water restriction patterns. The contrast-enhanced protocol (1,490 PLN) adds dynamic post-gadolinium sequences that map lesion vascularity over time — the enhancement kinetics (rapid wash-in and wash-out) are a hallmark of malignant neovascularisation and significantly improve diagnostic specificity. Breast MRI is recommended for several populations: women with BRCA1/BRCA2 mutations or other high-risk genetic profiles (where annual breast MRI screening is guideline-recommended alongside mammography), women with dense breast tissue that limits mammographic sensitivity, patients with newly diagnosed breast cancer for surgical planning, and women with breast implants requiring assessment. The examination is typically scheduled between days 7-14 of the menstrual cycle to minimise physiological enhancement.
