The adult preventive health check is the statutory examination that every Czech general practitioner provides to registered patients, carried out at Poliklinika Kounicova by the GP team (Drs Brejchová, Ševčíková, Plachá, Mrózková and Hudáková). It reviews personal and family history, lifestyle and current medication, includes a physical examination with blood pressure, height, weight and BMI, and triggers age-appropriate laboratory screening — typically a fasting blood-glucose and lipid (cholesterol) check, with cancer-screening referrals where due. It is the foundation of the Czech preventive-care model and is reimbursed by public health insurance every two years, so there is normally nothing to pay. Booking is by phone or email at the Kounicova reception.
The adult preventive health check (preventivní prohlídka) is the cornerstone of Czech primary-care prevention, offered to every patient registered with a general practitioner. At Poliklinika Kounicova it is performed by the adult GP team and follows the schedule defined by Czech law: once every two years for adults. The aim is to catch the common, often silent drivers of long-term ill health — cardiovascular risk, raised blood glucose, abnormal cholesterol and early cancers — while they are still manageable. A typical appointment begins with a structured review of personal and family medical history, lifestyle factors (smoking, alcohol, physical activity, diet) and any current medication or symptoms. The GP then carries out a physical examination that records blood pressure, height, weight and body-mass index, examines the heart, lungs, abdomen, skin and lymph nodes, and checks for risk signs relevant to the patient's age and sex. Laboratory screening is requested where the schedule calls for it — most commonly a fasting blood glucose and a lipid profile (total, LDL and HDL cholesterol and triglycerides) to assess metabolic and cardiovascular risk — and the GP arranges age-appropriate cancer screening such as colorectal testing, mammography or cervical screening through the relevant programmes. Because the on-site blood-draw room at Kounicova is currently not in operation, any blood sampling is arranged through an associated collection point; the reception can advise on where. This check is suited to all registered adults and is especially valuable for those with a family history of heart disease, diabetes or cancer, for people who rarely see a doctor, and for anyone wanting a baseline of their health. To prepare, patients are usually asked to attend fasting if bloods are planned, to bring a list of medications, and to note any symptoms or concerns. Results and any onward referrals are discussed at follow-up. The examination is reimbursed by Czech public health insurance every two years, so for registered patients there is normally no charge; it is not an open self-pay longevity panel and the scope follows the national preventive standard rather than an à-la-carte menu.
