Scar & Tattoo Surgical Correction

Scar revision excises a wide, stretched, or irregular scar and re-closes the skin with plastic-surgical technique to produce a finer, flatter line; tattoo excision removes the inked skin completely in one or more stages — the definitive alternative to laser when complete removal is wanted and the tattoo's size and location allow.

**Scar revision:** Not every scar heals well. Wounds closed under tension, infected during healing, or simply unlucky in an individual's healing biology can mature into wide, stretched, depressed, or raised scars. Surgical revision removes the old scar entirely and re-closes the wound under optimal conditions: incision lines re-oriented along natural skin tension lines where possible, tension dispersed in deep layers, and skin edges joined with fine atraumatic technique. The result is a new, narrow scar that — with proper aftercare — matures far less conspicuously than the original. Revision is best performed once the original scar has matured (typically 12+ months after the injury or surgery). **Surgical tattoo removal:** Laser removal works by fragmenting ink over many sessions, but some tattoos respond poorly (certain colours, deep professional ink), and some patients simply want certainty. Surgical excision removes the tattooed skin completely. Small tattoos are excised and closed directly in one session; larger ones may be removed by serial excision — staged procedures several months apart, each removing a portion as the surrounding skin relaxes. The trade is a surgical scar in place of the tattoo, planned and closed by a plastic surgeon to be as fine as the location allows. **The procedure:** Performed under local anaesthesia in 30–60 minutes per stage. Sutures are removed at 7–14 days depending on body site. **Aftercare:** Avoid stretching the area while healing, support the scar with silicone gel or sheets from week 2–3 as advised, and protect from sun for 6–12 months. These steps materially affect the final scar quality.
