Ear Surgery (Otoplasty)

Type

Otoplasty

Duration

1 hour

Otoplasty at MEDICent corrects protruding or asymmetric ears by reshaping the ear cartilage through an incision hidden behind the ear. The procedure is available for children from age 10 — once the ear is fully grown and the child can cooperate with aftercare — as well as for adults who have lived with prominent ears for years. Performed under analgosedation included in the price (one ear from 8,500 Kč, both ears 16,500–17,500 Kč), with same-day discharge and a headband worn during healing.

Protruding ears are one of the most common congenital aesthetic concerns, and for school-age children they can be a significant source of teasing. Otoplasty is a low-risk, high-satisfaction corrective procedure with permanent results. **The procedure:** Through an incision concealed in the fold behind the ear, the surgeon reshapes the cartilage — recreating the missing antihelical fold and/or reducing an overdeveloped conchal bowl — and secures the new shape with permanent internal sutures. The ear is repositioned closer to the head in natural proportion. Surgery takes about 45–60 minutes for one ear, 1.5–2 hours for both. **Anaesthesia and comfort:** MEDICent performs otoplasty under analgosedation (light sleep plus local anaesthesia), included in the published price and supervised by the clinic's anaesthesiologists. This is particularly valuable for children, who sleep through the procedure without the burden of full general anaesthesia. **Age:** From 10 years — by this age the ear has reached essentially adult size and the child can reliably wear the protective headband. Many adult patients also choose otoplasty after decades of hiding their ears under hair. **Recovery:** A head bandage is worn for the first days, then an elastic headband (especially at night) for several weeks to protect the new shape. Discomfort is mild and managed with ordinary analgesics. Children typically return to school within a week, contact sports after 6 weeks. The scar behind the ear is effectively invisible. **Results:** Permanent — the cartilage holds its corrected shape for life.
