Acne Treatment

Duration

30 min

Comprehensive specialist acne management including topical therapies, oral medications, chemical peels, and laser treatments tailored to acne severity and skin type.

Medical & Surgical Dermatology Clinic offers specialist acne management for adolescents and adults, led by Dr Sue-Ann Ho who brings over 18 years of clinical dermatology experience to the treatment of all acne subtypes — comedonal, inflammatory, nodular, and cystic. Management is evidence-based and personalised: mild to moderate acne is typically addressed with topical retinoids, benzoyl peroxide, and antibiotic combinations; moderate to severe acne may require oral antibiotics, hormonal therapy (for women), or oral isotretinoin where appropriate. Dr Ho follows international dermatology guidelines (AAD, BAD) to guide prescribing, with careful monitoring for isotretinoin's known systemic effects including liver function and lipid levels. Procedural adjuncts available at the clinic include chemical peels (salicylic acid, glycolic acid) to address comedonal plugging and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, and dermatological lasers for active acne and acne scarring. Acne scarring treatments — including fractional laser and other resurfacing modalities — are also offered for patients whose primary concern is residual scarring rather than active disease. A comprehensive acne management plan includes dietary and lifestyle counselling, as these factors are increasingly recognised to influence acne severity. Patients are reviewed at regular intervals to assess treatment response and adjust protocols as needed.
