Most removals are minor outpatient procedures performed under local anaesthetic. Depending on the lesion, the doctor may excise it with a scalpel and close the site with sutures, or use another suitable technique; the removed tissue can be sent for histological analysis to confirm its nature, which is recommended for anything atypical. The visit is short and you go home the same day with wound-care instructions.
