Duration

A medical use of botulinum toxin that temporarily blocks the nerve signals driving sweat-gland activity, significantly reducing sweating in the treated area. At Medica Aesthetica it is most often used for the underarms — where it is most effective — and can also address sweaty palms, soles or the forehead. Dermatologist prim. MUDr. Zdena Stratilová maps the affected area before injecting, and the appointment needs no recovery time.
Botulinum toxin injections for hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) work by temporarily interrupting the chemical signal between nerves and sweat glands, so the treated glands produce much less sweat. This is a recognised medical use of the toxin and is offered at Medica Aesthetica after dermatologist prim. MUDr. Zdena Stratilová confirms that the sweating is troublesome and that the patient is suitable. During the session — around twenty to thirty minutes — the doctor first identifies the area to treat, sometimes mapping the most active sweating zone, then places a grid of shallow injections across it. The underarms are the most common and most effective site; palms, soles and the forehead or face can also be treated, though some sites can be more sensitive. There is no downtime and most people return to normal routines immediately, while temporarily limiting intense activity, sauna and hot environments as advised. Results usually begin within a few days and reach their maximum after one to two weeks, with dryness typically lasting several months before the effect gradually wears off and the treatment can be repeated. It suits people whose daily life, clothing or confidence is affected by excessive sweating that ordinary antiperspirants do not control. It is not performed during pregnancy or breastfeeding, in certain neurological conditions, or where there is allergy to the components; the doctor reviews suitability and gives aftercare guidance.
