Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery)

Blepharoplasty is eyelid surgery that removes excess upper-lid skin and, for the lower lids, the fat pads that cause under-eye bags, performed by plastic surgeon Doc. MUDr. Jan Válka. It addresses a tired or sad-looking appearance and, with heavy upper lids, a restricted field of vision. Blepharoplasty rejuvenates the eye area by removing or repositioning excess skin and fat around the eyelids. With age, the upper lids can develop loose, hooded skin that makes the eyes look tired and, when severe, can encroach on the upper field of vision; the lower lids can develop bulging fat pads that read as under-eye bags. At Medica Aesthetica the surgery is performed by plastic surgeon Doc. MUDr. Jan Válka after a consultation in which he examines the eyelids, discusses the goal and plans the appropriate technique. The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis without hospitalisation. For the upper lids, a fine incision is hidden in the natural lid crease and excess skin (and a little muscle or fat where needed) is removed before careful closure. For the lower lids, surgery can be done through an external incision just below the lashes or, when only fat needs to be addressed, through the inside of the lid (the transconjunctival route) which leaves no visible external scar. Upper and lower lids can be treated separately or in one combined session. Most people return to everyday activities in roughly seven to ten days, with swelling and bruising around the eyes resolving over several weeks and any scars fading over months. The treatment suits adults bothered by heavy or hooded upper lids, under-eye bags, or a restricted upper field of vision from drooping skin. The surgeon reviews eye health, general health and contraindications first and provides aftercare instructions and follow-up.
