Treatment starts with a discussion of your goals — more hydration and a defined border, a little extra volume, or correction of asymmetry — and the doctor recommends a volume accordingly, often starting conservatively with 0.5 ml for first-time patients.
A strong topical anaesthetic is applied and the filler products also contain lidocaine, so the procedure is generally well tolerated. The gel is placed with a fine needle or cannula and shaped by hand; results are immediate, though lips commonly swell for a day or two and small bruises can occur.
