PRF — Platelet-Rich Fibrin

Platelet-rich fibrin is a second-generation autologous treatment that, like PRP, uses your own blood — but is prepared without anticoagulant so the platelets and growth factors are held within a natural fibrin scaffold and released more slowly. PRF (platelet-rich fibrin) builds on the same principle as PRP but uses a gentler preparation: the blood is spun without anticoagulant, so as well as concentrating platelets and growth factors it forms a soft natural fibrin matrix. That scaffold traps the regenerative components and releases them more gradually over the days after treatment, which many practitioners feel gives a longer, more sustained stimulus to the skin than standard PRP. At Medestetic a small blood sample is drawn, processed and then injected into the skin; the appointment takes around forty-five to sixty minutes with numbing cream for comfort. Because it is entirely your own material there is no risk of allergy to a foreign substance. Mild swelling, redness or small bruises can occur for a day or two. PRF is often chosen for thin, crêpey or tired skin — including the delicate area under the eyes — and results build gradually as the skin regenerates over several weeks, so a short course followed by occasional maintenance gives the best outcome. It can be combined with other regenerative and skin-quality treatments at the centre. Suitability is reviewed by the physician; like PRP it is not carried out in pregnancy or in certain blood and clotting conditions.
