Injection Lipolysis (Fat-Dissolving)

Injection lipolysis uses a series of small injections to target stubborn pockets of fat that resist diet and exercise — most popularly the double chin, but also the arms, abdomen, thighs and above the knees. Injection lipolysis, sometimes called fat-dissolving injections, is a non-surgical way to reduce small, localised deposits of fat. A solution is injected into the subcutaneous fat in a grid pattern across the area; it is intended to disrupt the membranes of fat cells so their contents are gradually released and cleared by the body over the following weeks. The most popular area is the submental region under the chin, where a softer jaw profile can be the goal, but the clinic also treats the upper arms, abdomen, thighs and the area above the knees. At Medeste Clinic the physician marks the area and performs the injections, which take around fifteen to thirty minutes depending on the size. Swelling, tenderness, firmness and bruising in the treated area are expected and can last several days to a couple of weeks — this is part of the inflammatory process associated with the treatment. Because fat is cleared gradually, a course of two to four sessions spaced about four to six weeks apart is usually needed, with results developing over the weeks between and after sessions. Injection lipolysis is intended for spot-reduction of diet- and exercise-resistant pockets in people close to a stable weight; it is not a treatment for general weight loss or obesity. Suitability and contraindications are assessed by the doctor at consultation, and it is avoided in pregnancy and breastfeeding.
