A dental crown is a custom-made cap that fits over a tooth to restore its shape, strength and appearance when it is too damaged for a simple filling — for example after extensive decay, a fracture or root canal treatment. A bridge uses crowns on the teeth either side of a gap to support one or more replacement teeth, providing a fixed (non-removable) way to fill a space left by missing teeth. Both restorations help to restore comfortable chewing and a natural-looking smile, and protect the remaining tooth structure. At MEDENT crowns and bridges are prepared with the help of an intraoral scanner for accurate digital impressions, and the team offers different materials to suit the tooth and your priorities: porcelain-fused-to-metal restorations, which pair a strong metal core with a porcelain exterior, and full-porcelain (all-ceramic) crowns, which are metal-free for a more translucent, natural look that is often preferred for front teeth. Where a tooth has lost a lot of structure, a cast post-and-core can be placed inside the root first to support the crown. Treatment usually involves preparing the tooth, taking a scan or impression and fitting the laboratory-made restoration at a later visit, with a temporary in between. Well-made crowns and bridges can last many years with good hygiene and regular check-ups.
