CBCT is a 3D cone-beam scan that produces detailed cross-sectional images of the teeth, jawbone, nerves and sinuses, supporting accurate planning for implants, surgery and complex root canal treatment. MEDENT performs CBCT in-house so imaging and treatment planning happen in one place. Lower-dose 2D options — a panoramic X-ray and single intraoral X-rays — are also available depending on what the dentist needs to see.

Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) is a specialised dental scan that captures the mouth and jaws in three dimensions. Unlike a flat 2D X-ray, it builds cross-sectional images that show the precise position and shape of teeth, roots, the jawbone, nerve canals and the sinuses. This detailed view is particularly valuable for planning dental implants — assessing bone height and width and avoiding important structures — and for surgical extractions, complex or re-treated root canals, assessment of impacted teeth and orthodontic planning. Having this information in advance is associated with more predictable, safer treatment. At MEDENT the CBCT scanner is part of the clinic's in-house digital diagnostics, alongside an intraoral scanner, dental microscope and digital imaging, so a scan and the planning that follows can take place under one roof without referral elsewhere. The scan itself is quick and non-invasive: you simply remain still for a short time while the scanner rotates around your head, and modern cone-beam units are designed to keep the radiation dose to what is needed for the diagnostic task. For situations that do not require a full 3D study, the clinic also offers a panoramic (pantomographic) X-ray, which gives a broad single image of all the teeth and jaws, and individual intraoral (periapical) X-rays of specific teeth, each at a lower dose and cost. The dentist will recommend the most appropriate type of imaging for your situation and explain the findings as part of your treatment plan.
