PRP Treatment (Platelet-Rich Plasma)

Type

PRP/PRF Therapy

Duration

1 hour

Platelet-rich plasma uses a small sample of your own blood, spun to concentrate its platelets and growth factors, which is then re-introduced into the skin to support repair and rejuvenation. Because it is derived entirely from you, it is well tolerated and a natural option for improving skin quality and tone. At Med-Derm it is performed by a clinician, and a short course tends to give the most noticeable results.

PRP (platelet-rich plasma) is a regenerative treatment that uses components from your own blood. A small sample is drawn and spun in a centrifuge to separate and concentrate the platelets, which carry growth factors associated with tissue repair and collagen production. This concentrated plasma is then injected into the skin or applied alongside microneedling to support rejuvenation of tone, texture and firmness. At Med-Derm the process — blood draw, preparation and treatment — takes around forty-five to sixty minutes, with numbing for comfort. Because the material is entirely your own, there is no risk of an allergic reaction to a foreign substance, which makes PRP a popular choice for patients who prefer a natural approach. Expect mild redness or small bruises for a day or two. Results build gradually as the skin responds over several weeks, so a course of treatments spaced a few weeks apart is usually recommended, followed by occasional maintenance. PRP is often chosen for dull or tired-looking skin, fine lines and the thinner skin around the eyes, and can be combined with microneedling for a stronger effect. Suitability is assessed by the clinician beforehand; PRP is not performed in pregnancy or in certain blood or clotting conditions, and these are reviewed at consultation.
