Dermoscopy is a non-invasive examination in which a dermatologist views the skin through a dermatoscope — a magnifier with controlled lighting that reveals colours, structures and vascular patterns inside a mole or lesion that the unaided eye cannot see. The examination itself is painless and takes only minutes per lesion; nothing is cut or removed during dermoscopy. The dermatologist interprets the findings and explains whether a lesion looks reassuring and suitable for ongoing observation, or whether it should be removed and sent for histological examination.
