PDO threads are made from a suture material that has been used in surgery for decades and is well-tolerated in tissue. When inserted under the skin via a fine cannula or needle, barbed or cog PDO threads mechanically engage the dermis and subcutaneous tissue, creating an immediate visible lifting effect as the barbs grip and reposition the tissue. Over three to six months as the PDO is absorbed, the mechanical irritation triggers a fibroblast response that deposits new collagen along the thread trajectory — sustaining and improving the initial result even after the thread has dissolved. PDO is the faster-acting option and is often used for the lower face, jowls, brow, neck, and nasolabial folds where immediate repositioning is the primary goal.
